Name: Deepest Darkness

The Story: The ocean was once ruled by two Kings, and two Queens. Zarek and Kratos, brothers, and their lovers, Cinder and Ebony. They each had their children, and selected heirs… though; Kratos took adoptions of many others, creating a family far too large for him to manage. But, not until his newest arrivals— Xhelos, Shella, and Kith —were born did things truly turn for the worst.
Kratos and Zarek had been getting into short spats with each other, which were kept secret from their families. These three new born mermaids caused the rest to be ignored for about three years. And in those three years, the small spats turned into brawls… where blood shed was constant. Though, they still said nothing to their families.
As more years passed, the three triplets were secretly becoming prey to their siblings, thought to be nothing more that tools of training. Xhelos, the strongest of the three, stood up for them, with Zaber— his cousin— at his side. Zaber and he were the two granted heirs to the throne; to rule together in this alliance, prevent it from breaking… Since, of course, none other from Zarek and Kratos’ young got along besides them.
After five years… there wasn’t any way for Zarek and Kratos to hide their brawls any longer… Zarek had betrayed them right before them all. Thus, not only did Zarek and Kratos battle once more, but the families fought as well. Lasting years, this war raged on. All of Kratos’ male heirs were killed… except one… but by whom is what was surprising. Zaber. Right in front of his eyes, Xhelos watched his twins slaughtered by who he thought was his friend.
To end this bloody war, Zarek commanded that Kratos was to give him the last remaining male, which Kratos did reluctantly. He handed Xhelos over to Zarek, and the war stopped. And, to prevent it from happening again, Kratos took to the sea, and Zarek to the land. Though, once the two males; Zaber and Xhelos; were old enough, they would rule the sea.
But, this never had a chance to happen. Xhelos fled to the sea late at night, years later. That is, after a bloody battle with Zaber, who caught him. Zaber left the battle with hardly a wound, while Xhelos left blind. Though, there wasn’t a victor. The two made a truce; until they were next to meet.
Xhelos fled to the sea, and Zaber returned to his father to speak the news of their captive’s escape, and his attempt to at preventing it. Zaber was sent to heal, while Zarek searched the ocean… and headed to where Kratos ruled, figuring that he took Xhelos back. And there, broke out the final battle between the two… where there wasn’t one as the victor. Both were mortally wounded, and bled out their lived in the sea… and their lovers ended their lives in grief.
Once healed, Zaber took the position he was supposed to share, and imprisoned the rest of Kratos’ family as slaves. He also set out a bounty for his rival, wanted dead or alive. Though, even as the years past, no one brought him what he wanted… thus, he ruled on… And that takes us to where we are now…
